I'm on track all week, then the weekend (or the cottage) undoes it. How do I stop starting over every Monday?

Stop treating Monday as a fresh start. In our experience, a strict week sets up a big weekend, and the guilt sets up another strict Monday. Eat enough during the week, anchor breakfast and lunch on Saturday and Sunday, pick the treats that matter, and pick back up at your next meal.

Right?

Every Monday, a fresh start.

Every Friday, the same story.

Let's break the loop.

Why does the weekend keep undoing my week?

Monday to Thursday, you're dialled in.

Then Friday shows up.

Here's what a lot of the women we talk to describe:

  • Less routine. No meetings, no school drop-off, no schedule. More time, less structure.
  • More social. Dinner with friends, a birthday, drinks on the patio, the kids' tournaments.
  • The cottage. A cooler full of whatever was easy, a dock, and long afternoons.
  • You're tired. By Friday at 6 p.m., you've made a thousand decisions this week. Food is the one you stop making.

None of that means something is wrong with you.

It means your plan was built for Tuesday.

Is the weekend really the problem?

Here's the thing. The Monday restart is the real problem.

It usually goes like this:

  1. Monday: a fresh start, extra strict.
  2. Wednesday: hungry, but holding on.
  3. Friday: "I've earned this."
  4. Sunday: guilt, and a promise that Monday will be different.
  5. Monday: a fresh start, extra strict.

In our experience, the stricter the week, the bigger the weekend.

So the fix starts Monday morning, with enough food. If your weekdays are running on salads and willpower, read why eating too little stalls fat loss after 40.

And if you've been in this loop for years, hear this from Chris: "You're not failing. The system you were running was not the right system for you."

Can one weekend really undo my week?

We tell women this all the time: your body learns to trust you. When you consistently feed it, move it and let it sleep, it starts to trust you.

And when it does, a weekend doesn't change your body.

Most women come to us wanting to lose weight. What they actually want to lose is fat.

Fat loss happens over weeks. Every one of those weeks has a weekend in it.

What wears you down is the loop around the weekend. The guilt, the restart, the strict week that sets up the next one.

What does a good weekend actually look like?

Structured enough to feel good. Loose enough to be a weekend.

  • Anchor breakfast and lunch. Protein at both. When your first two meals are steady, dinner out stops feeling like a test.
  • Pack the cottage. Bring prepped protein and cut-up veggies, so the first meal up there isn't chips on the dock.
  • Move once. You have seven days to fit your five workouts, weekend included. Or swim, paddle, take the long walk. It counts.
  • Have it with intention. Pick the one or two things you actually want. The patio drink, the brunch, the dessert. Enjoy them. Then move on.
  • Plan Sunday dinner. Something simple, with protein. It's the meal that sets up your week.

For the drinks, our weekend favourites are finishing your last one at least 3 hours before bed, and soda water with lime when you want to skip a round. More on that in can I drink wine and still lose fat.

What do I do on Monday morning?

Nothing special.

That's the point.

  • Eat a normal breakfast, with protein. No skipped meals to make up for Saturday.
  • Do the next workout on your plan. No punishment workout.
  • Drink your water and get to bed on time. The boring stuff does the heavy lifting.
  • Tell your coach how the weekend went. At your weekly check-in, she's looking for the pattern. You don't have to hide anything from her.

And really, don't wait for Monday at all. Restart at your next meal. Sunday dinner works just fine.

If the slip tends to stretch past one weekend, here's how to stick with it past week 3.

What does it feel like when the loop breaks?

This is the goal we coach toward.

A weekend away with your girlfriends. A good time. And no "I have to be good on Monday."

Monday stops being a fresh start. It's just Monday. Your workout is on the plan, breakfast is breakfast, and there's nothing to make up for.

Can we please stop pretending you have to choose between your weekends and your body?

We've helped 1,000+ women lose 10 to 20 lbs of fat in 8 weeks. Every one of them had weekends in the middle of it.

I sat down with Michelle, a busy mom and business owner, to talk about how moms can put their own health on the list, manage the chaos and break the cycle of overwhelm.

Ready to stop starting over?

You don't need a better Monday.

You need a plan that includes Saturday.

Start with the short video on our homepage at fortyfwd.com. It walks through why your body stopped responding after 40 and the method we use to change that.

If it sounds like you, apply for a call with Chris.

He reads every application himself. On the call, he'll look at what your weeks and weekends really look like, and tell you straight whether the program is the right fit. If it is, he walks you through the investment then, once you both know it's a fit.

Enjoy the weekend.

Skip the restart.

Just keep going.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I lose weight during the week and gain it back on the weekend?

In our experience, a strict week sets up a big weekend, and the guilt sets up another strict Monday. Eating enough during the week and keeping a little structure on the weekend usually breaks the loop.

Can one weekend undo a week of progress?

In our experience, no. One weekend doesn't change your body. The cycle of guilt and restarting every Monday is what keeps women stuck.

How do I stay on track at the cottage?

Bring prepped protein and cut-up veggies, anchor breakfast and lunch, and get in a workout, a swim or a long walk. Then enjoy the one or two things you came for.

What should I do the Monday after a big weekend?

Nothing special. Eat a normal breakfast with protein, do the next workout on your plan and tell your coach how it went. No skipped meals and no punishment workouts.

Can I drink on the weekend and still lose fat?

Yes. We suggest finishing your last drink at least 3 hours before bed, and soda water with lime when you want to skip a round.
