Do I have to count calories, weigh my food or track macros to lose fat after 40?

No. You don't have to count calories, weigh your food or track macros to lose fat after 40. Your coach does the math up front and turns it into a simple plan built around real food you enjoy. You use your own hand to size portions, and your coach checks in every week to keep you on track.

No apps.

No food scale on the counter.

No logging every handful of almonds.

Why does counting feel like the only way?

Because for a lot of us, it's the only way anyone ever taught us.

A lot of the women we talk to have tracked for years. Some for over a decade. Others have never done it and are nervous they'll have to start.

The worry I hear most on calls sounds like this: "I thought I'd have to weigh my food."

Here's the thing.

Tracking can teach you a lot. But as a way to live, it tends to break down:

  • It takes over your day. Punching every meal into your phone gets old fast. Nobody wants to do it for the rest of her life.
  • It's only as honest as what you type in. A lot of women admit the app never saw the oil in the pan or the butter on the toast.
  • It falls apart at real meals. Restaurant dinners, a friend's barbecue, a plate someone else cooked.
  • It doesn't tell you what to change. It shows you numbers. It doesn't adjust your plan when you stall.

If you've tracked for years and still feel stuck, you're in very good company.

Do calories still matter after 40?

Yes. We'll always be straight with you on this one.

Energy balance is real. What you eat still adds up.

You just don't have to be the one doing the adding.

Chris puts it like this: "You don't cut your own hair. Why design your own nutrition plan?"

When you start, your coach, who is Precision Nutrition certified, builds your plan around your body, your goals, your schedule and the foods you actually eat. The math happens there, once, by someone trained to do it.

And here's what surprises a lot of women.

Most women come to us wanting to lose weight. What they actually want to lose is fat.

In our experience, the women who've been counting hardest are often eating too little, especially for someone who strength trains. More on that in am I eating too little to lose fat?

So how do I know how much to eat?

You look at your hand.

We use the Precision Nutrition hand method. Your hand goes everywhere you go, and it's sized to you. No scale, no measuring cups, no app.

  • Protein: a palm-sized portion. Chicken, fish, eggs, Greek yogurt, tofu.
  • Vegetables: a fist-sized portion.
  • Carbs: a cupped handful. Rice, potatoes, fruit, oats.
  • Fats: about a thumb. Olive oil, nuts, avocado, cheese.

Your coach tells you how many of each fits your body and your goals, then adjusts as you go.

For the first 14 days, the plan is lower carb and higher protein, with a short break from alcohol, dairy, gluten and processed sugar. Then those foods come back in.

That's it. Real food, on a real plate, measured with the hand you already have.

What do I focus on instead of numbers?

A few simple habits do most of the heavy lifting:

  • Protein at most meals. It's the one we come back to again and again.
  • Eat slowly and stop when you're satisfied. Comfortably full is the goal.
  • Mostly real, whole food. Built around meals you already enjoy, with my recipes for when you need ideas.
  • Sleep. In our experience, a short night makes the next day's cravings a lot louder.

Then every week, you check in with your coach. She looks at what's changing, how your clothes fit, your energy and your strength, and adjusts the plan with you.

That's the part an app can't do.

What if I actually like tracking?

Then you're welcome here too.

Some women enjoy the data. It helps them feel in control, and that's completely fine.

If you happen to be someone who likes numbers, macro coaching is available. It's your choice, never a requirement.

Either way, you won't be guessing. Your coach knows your plan inside and out.

Will I still lose fat if I don't track?

Yes.

We've helped 1,000+ women lose 10 to 20 lbs of fat in 8 weeks. No food scales. No calorie apps.

And your favourite foods stay in the plan. Wine nights, family dinners, pizza night. Here's how we keep wine and your favourite foods in.

Can we please stop pretending you need an app to eat dinner?

What you learn here, you keep. Your hand comes with you on vacation, to the restaurant and into the years after the 8 weeks. If keeping it off is the part that's always slipped away, read why the fat keeps coming back after a diet.

Ready to put the calculator down?

You've done enough math.

Start with the short video on our homepage at fortyfwd.com. It walks through why your body stopped responding after 40 and the method we use to change that.

If it sounds like you, apply for a call with Chris.

He reads every application himself. On the call, he'll look at how you've been eating and what tracking has and hasn't done for you, and tell you straight whether the program is the right fit. If it is, he walks you through the investment then, once you both know it's a fit.

Close the app.

Keep your favourite foods.

Let your hand do the measuring.
